Kasaba Ganapati is considered as the presiding deity of the city of Pune. The custom is to seek the blessings of this deity before all auspicious, religious and social ceremonies. The credit for constructing the temple goes to Jijabai, mother of Chhatrapati Shivaji. The temple was constructed when she came to live in the Lal Mahal. Initially it was a small shrine with only the sanctum. The other additions were made later on by various devotees. This temple enjoys the honour of leading the immersion procession during the Ganesh Festival.
